Insurrection?
The mainstream news media is offering a constant flow of coverage about the “insurrection” and how it might affect Ex-President Trump’s chances to be listed on the primary ballets of many individual states. It seems that many liberal leaning state election officials feel that they have the power to remove Ex-President Trump’s name from the primary ballots. They are taking it upon themselves to interpret the 14th amendment.
The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1868, addresses several aspects of citizenship and the rights of citizens. It does not provide a direct definition of an insurrection but does reference the term in the context of actions against the United States.
The relevant section is Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which reads:
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”
This section essentially stipulates that individuals, who have taken an oath to support the U.S. Constitution and then participate in an insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or aid its enemies, are disqualified from holding federal or state office. The term “insurrection” in this context is generally understood to mean a violent uprising against the government, but the Amendment itself does not explicitly define what constitutes an insurrection. The interpretation of what actions qualify as “engaging in insurrection or rebellion” has varied over time and often depends on the specific legal and historical context of the events in question.
So, put plainly, there is no definition of what is actually is an insurrection that would trigger the 14th amendment. Therefore the protests of Jan 06, which escalated to entering the Capitol and causing damage, are not an exact match of what is an insurrection. But as the events of Jan 06 played out the Democrats and the mainstream media quickly pronounced this event an “insurrection” rather than simply a protest that got out of hand.
Now a couple years earlier, the entire country watched as protests broke out by liberal Democrat activists. The entire nation watched as these protests turned violent. Cities watched their downtown business being looted and burned. Even police department buildings were burned and federal buildings were captured as these protesters declared the area of the city they were occupying as no longer part of the United States. There were many times when TV news reporters were commentating on the events of the day while showing buildings burning and looting happening, but their comments were that these were peaceful protests. None of these liberal activists were prosecuted for insurrection.
And as the election of 2024 draws near, Democrats are attempting to use every excuse they can to stop Ex-President Trump from running again. There are 29 different lawsuits active currently. These are being pursued in he Democrats attempt to stop Ex-President Trump from running. These lawsuits have been filed using very sketchy legal foundations in an attempt to stretch their interpretations of the laws to fit the scenario they are pitching. Their hope is to create enough chaos surrounding Ex-President Trump in order to make voters pick someone less controversial.
What’s amazing is that the main stream media ignores reporting about how these latest attempts to stop Ex-President Trump from running are politically motivated and are just plain outright lies just like the Russian collusion fiasco and their two failed attempts at impeachment. Yet, in spite of all their false accusations and lawsuits, Ex-President Trump is leading in the polls by large margins. Democrats are so power drunk that they will stop at nothing in order to eliminate any challenger who looks to threaten their position of power.
